Luxury Swiss watchmaker Oris has a long history of high-precision engineering. Oris watches for men fuse striking designs with modern features such as hardened sapphire crystal glass, movement impact protection and scratch-resistant coatings.

Founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, Oris started life manufacturing high-quality pocket watches in the Swiss town of Hölstein. In 1925 they began creating wristwatches by fitting bracelet buckles to their quality timepieces.

Fast-forwarding to the present day, Oris has amassed a striking collection of high-performance watches for diving, aviation, and motorsport. Their ‘Calibre’ range of movements are anti-magnetic, shock-resistant, and feature long-duration power reserves.

Another member of the Calibre 400 family, this watch is a little more professional and showy than the previous piece. It retains the same quality and durability as well as key features like the anti-magnetic automatic movement.

A classic divers watch with a rugged and 1960s retro feel to it, this watch is perfect for sports and casual occasions. This eye-catching timepiece is based on the very first diver’s watch that Oris created in 1965.

The black watch face and gold indexes give it a high-quality, elegant vibe that is both masculine and polished, despite the rough edges. The brown calfskin leather strap and bronze bezel and batons give it a stylish and retro look.

Another iteration of the classic Oris divers watch, this piece is modern and masculine in look yet emits a retro vibe due to its stunning dial and indexes.

The 40 mm stainless steel watch case has been designed to meet the needs of the diving world. The rich, green dial face has an iridescent sheen that contrasts beautifully with the gold/bronze circular indexes and hands.

5. Oris Aquis

Oris Aquis
Model: 01 774 7743 4155-07 8 24 05PEB

Review

The Aquis watch is perhaps the archetypal divers watch; when you think of a divers watch, this is likely to be the image that springs to mind.

This classic design has much to offer to those who want a tough, traditionally masculine divers watch that can stand up to water, sun, wind, and all but the harshest of impacts.

The chunky case has an almost serrated edge which complements the royal blue dial face and silver/white baton indexes and hands. Shielded by sapphire crystal glass and treated with an anti-reflective coating, this watch is durable and attractive.

3 easy to read chronograph dials display seconds, hours and a separate time zone. A date aperture is located at 6 o’clock, nestling inside the hour dial.

Water-resistant to 500 meters with a 48 hrs power reserve, this beauty will still be going strong long after your ears have popped. With multiple dials and a secure deployment clasp, this watch is also one of the most functional timepieces on this list.

Review

If you want a sleek yet robust watch that looks good and stands up to the wear and tear of daily life, I feel that the ProPilot 44m watch could be just what you have been looking for.

The 44 mm stainless steel case commands respect. It is sleek, slim, and simply finished. The black face, white numbered indexes and hands, and inner dials are beautifully complemented by small flashes of yellow.

There are 3 chronograph dials for continuous seconds, 20 minutes and 12 hours interval counters. Yellow hands on two of the dials match the top of the black second’s hand.

The fabric strap is thick, rigid, and has a secure pin buckle clasp. The movement is protected with Sapphire crystal glass treated with an anti-reflective coating.

Water-resistant to 100 meters and equipped with a 48-hour power reserve, the ProPilot watch is one of the more modern Oris designs in both look and feel. If you want an unconventional everyday watch that will keep up with you, you want the ProPilot.

7. Oris Artelier

Oris Artelier
Model: 01 733 7721 4053-07 8 21 79

Review

The Artelier watch design more formal, discreet, and the type of watch I would save for eveningwear. Nonetheless, it one of those designs which really encapsulates the Oris approach to form and functionality.

The minimalist etched black watch dial has complimenting slim, steel indexes and hands that are easy on the eye and feels timeless by design. There is a discreet date aperture at 6 o’clock, plus 5-minute intervals are numbered on the inner bezel.

A grooved silver crown is located on the right side of this timepiece; although quite large, it remains more delicate than other models. The rear of the watch clearly displays the movement in all its glory.

It has sapphire crystal glass which has been treated with an anti-reflective coating protecting the dial. This means that you will never struggle to read this watch, whatever the weather.

The 4-lines of small links of the stainless steel bracelet create a smooth line from the bracelet to the silver lugs on the 40 mm case.

Like all Oris watches, the Artelier watch is durable and functional. It will stand up to daily wear with ease and is water-resistant to 50 meters and has a 38 hrs power reserve.

8. Oris Artix GT

Oris Artix GT
Model: 77477504153MB

Review

The Artix GT watch is one of Oris’s most iconic designs, and since it has first launched, it has built a cult following of hard-core fans. From the thick bracelet to the busy, multi-faceted face, this watch screams masculine energy.

The dark grey dial has contrasting silver and white indexes and hands that are easy to read. There is a discreet date aperture at 6 o’clock, plus 5-minute intervals are numbered on the inner bezel.

There are 3 chronograph dials for continuous seconds, minutes and hour interval counters. Red hands on two of the dials match the top of the white second’s hand. The silver outer bezel displays 10-minute intervals.

The gradient from the bracelet to its case is surprisingly gentle, given the rest of the design’s bulky and somewhat loud nature. The thick, stainless steel links on the bracelet contrast brushed and shiny finishes.

As well as being water-resistant to 100 meters, this watch has a 48 hrs power reserve, an in-built tachymeter, and a secure deployment clasp. In short, this is a watch you can wear literally anywhere.

42.0mm

9. Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition

Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition
Model: 01 798 7768 4284-SET

Review

This take on the pilot’s watch stands in stark contrast to some of the more traditional steel designs on this list. This limited edition watch pays homage to the Reno Air Races.

The grey-plated steel watch case and complimenting black dial face themselves are relatively understated in this design.

The minute and hour hands really jump out and are presenting in silver/white. The second’s hand is in black with a light blue tip. A black stop-second hand has a light blue aircraft icon which I think is a great touch.

A very unusual date display is located at the centre of this timepiece. A small light blue arrow is easy to read and points to the white date numbering.

The textured edge adds a little flair, but this is a watch that does not shy away from being simple. The padded fabric strap is black on the outside but has a bright blue interior which sometimes provides a flash of colour.

Tough, functional, and incredibly straightforward, this watch is water-resistant to 100 metres and possessing a 42 hrs power reserve. Each of these limited edition watches comes with a certificate of authenticity to prove its provenance.

41.0mm

Water Resistance:

Up to 100 meters

10. Oris Big Crown

Oris Big Crown
Model: 752 7698 4164-07 8 22 19

Review

At 45mm, the Big Crown men’s watch is bold, powerful and screams ‘Wall Street’ in the best way possible, although thankfully lacks the accompanying price tag.

The black face and contrasting white indexes, numbers and silver/white hands are clear and easy to read. The black second’s hand has a red tip that is equally easy on the eye. A large date aperture at 3 o’clock displays both day and date.

The classic stainless steel linked bracelet and the chunky case are weighty and well-made. Both the outer bezel has angled detail and nicely complements the etched crown.

Water-resistant to 100 metres, 38 hrs poser reserve, scratch-resistant, and glare resistant, this watch takes it back to basics; form, function, and efficiency in one perfectly balanced package.

Case Diameter:

45.0mm

Water Resistance:

Up to 100 meters

Conclusion

Oris focuses on diving, aviation, and motorsports watches and is recognised as one of the leading producers of quality men’s timepieces. What I especially love about each watch reviewed today is that they all have mechanical movements.

Originally a producer of high-end quartz watches, Oris abandoned quartz entirely and refocussed on producing mechanical timepieces of supreme quality. This ensures that the best Oris watches for men are not only high-quality, durable, and functional; they also have a beating heart.
