Although leaning towards cleaner scents, Chanel perfumes are classic, luxurious, and retain a modern edge for the modern age. I feel this is why Chanel perfumes have stood the test of time and still manage to out-perform newer brands.

Many of the classic Chanel fragrances have surprisingly complex scent profiles. The list of perfume notes for many of their fragrance is as long as it is impressive. This does not always mean they have the longevity you would hope for. So in the name of research, I took it upon myself to discover the Chanel Perfumes That Last The Longest.

Over the past 6 weeks, I have tried and tested 17 different Chanel fragrances and noted their longevity. The results have been hugely varied and most interesting. Both timeless classics and modern fragrances made it to the 8 finalists.

Here is my full review of each of the fragrances that made it onto my list of the Chanel perfumes that last the longest. For each scent, I provide a fragrance overview, list the notes, season to wear, and most importantly the longevity of each perfume!

1. Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum

Coco Mademoiselle by CHANEL

Review

Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum is an intoxicating combination of citrus, floral, warm orientals and musks that leave you wanting more. It is both seductive and youthfully fresh with a sense of carefree sophistication.

Begins with a beautifully warm yet fresh opening of mandarin citrus and orange blossom. Leads into a flowery, woody, slightly spicy ensemble as dry-down approaches.

Turkish rose provides an exotic element that, combined with rich opoponax, gives it a sensuous power.

The white musk nestles underneath, patchouli seems to come from nowhere to steal the show.

The Eau De Parfum version tested here provided outstanding longevity and lasted a whopping 8+ hours on my skin.

Overall, a versatile fragrance that is suited for both day and evening wear as its alluring vanilla and musk makes it powerful enough for an evening out while its refreshing orange fragrance makes it a romantic choice for a day perfume.

2. Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum ‘Intense’

COCO Mademoiselle Intense by Chanel

Review

This heady, powerful perfume takes some of the key notes of the original Coco Mademoiselle and adds deeper notes for a richer experience

The Intense version of Coco Mademoiselle still opens with fresh citrus, rose and patchouli that the original is renowned for. However, upon dry-down, there is warmth and creaminess from vanilla and tonka bean.

Rose and patchouli are still obvious but the intense version is warmed with tonka bean and vanilla to create an indulgent background on which lighter citrus and floral scents can dance. The notes of patchouli, vanilla and tonka bean are also far more notable and indulgent than the original version.

It’s floral without being overly sweet and has depth thanks to the vanilla and musk base notes. Tonka bean brings this fragrance alive and makes the intense version into the darker and more mysterious younger sister of the original Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum

The Eau De Parfum Intense version tested here provided excellent longevity and lasted 6+ hours on my skin. Interesting to note that the Intense version, whilst having a more intense collection of notes, does not last as long as the standard Eau De Parfum.

Overall, a smooth and elegant fragrance that feels perfectly suited for autumn/winter and creeping into spring.

3. Coromandel Eau De Parfum

CHANEL-COROMANDER

Review

Launched in 2016, Coromandel is powerful, rich and woody oriental fragrance which defies categorisation in many ways. It is modern yet classic, it is youthful and fun, yet sophisticated and experienced.

Starting life by getting straight to spicy/woody/musky patchouli, and after a few minutes, you can enjoy the creamy sweetness of white chocolate! Hints of jasmine and rose play a combined role, and powdery orange certainly makes an appearance. A resin focused base of benzoin and amber add warmth and intrigue with a slight aroma of incense.

While often classed as a classic ‘winter’ fragrance because of its musky/amber/incense base notes, Coromandel is actually very versatile and is just as suited to spring mornings and fall afternoons thanks to its fruity top notes. With that said, it is perfectly suited to evening wear, winter evenings in particular, because of its warming and spicy notes.

Coromandel Eau de Parfum provided excellent longevity and lasted 7+ hours on my skin.

Overall, by mixing classic and modern ingredients in new and exciting ways, Chanel has produced a perfume which is both classic and timeless.

Longevity:

Longevity 7 hours

Top Notes:

Citrus, Neroli, Bitter orange

Mid Notes:

Orris root, Patchouli, Rose, Jasmine

Base Notes:

Amber, Musk, Woody notes, Benzoin, Incense, Olibanum, White chocolate

4. Chanel No 5 Parfum

Chanel No 5 Parfum

Review

As luxury fragrances go, Chanel No 5 is iconic and guaranteed to add some elegance and opulence to everyday life. Aldehydes and floral powdery notes of lily of the valley, ylang-ylang and jasmine are combined with warming woody/amber notes.

The opening of citrus and aldehydes definitely makes a rich and complex statement. Soon settles down into a sophisticated bouquet of ylang-ylang, jasmine, iris and rose. Chanel No 5 is a somewhat powdery fragrance during the dry-down, then the woody/amber and slightly musky base makes its entrance known.

It has a clean yet warming properties, but not overly soapy but certainly powdery. The ‘Parfum’ version tested here provided excellent longevity and lasted 7+ hours on my skin.

Overall, a refined, polished and sophisticated fragrance for any age generation that’s timeless and unmistakably Chanel N°5. The bottle itself is an integral part of the N°5 overall experience with its sharp clean edges and minimalist design.

Longevity:

Longevity 7 hours

Top Notes:

Neroli, ylang-ylang, bergamot, Amalfi lemon and aldehydes

Mid Notes:

Iris, jasmine, orris root, rose and lily-of-the-valley

Base Notes:

Vetiver, musk, sandalwood, patchouli, oak moss, amber, vanilla

5. Coco Eau de Parfum

CHANEL-COCO

Review

Named for the founder, Coco Chanel Eau De Parfum has become an embodiment of classic elegance, class and style whilst still retaining a modern feel.

Opening with a tidal wave of cloves and coriander, these spices soon mellow after a few minutes to reveal a bed of rose and jasmine in equal measure. Orange blossom is delicate yet present.

Dry-down is where the magic happens. The base of sandalwood and dreamy tonka bean provide a feeling of qualities, dances with sultry amber and warming opoponax for the duration of the olfactory journey.

While classic notes like sandalwood and rose are at the heart of this perfume, the oriental twist of spices creates a fragrance perfect for elegant winter evenings.

Coco Eau de Parfum provided incredible longevity and lasted 8+ hours on my skin.

Overall, a gorgeously sophisticated fragrance which changes pleasantly as the hours go on. It is said that the spirit of Coco Chanel herself exists in every bottle, I tend to agree. It’s rich, warming, yet floral with a hint of spice. What more could you ask for!

Longevity:

6. Coco Noir Eau de Parfum

CHANEL-NOIR

Review

The darker and more sultry relation to Coco and Coco Mademoiselle, Coco Noir Eau de Parfum was launched in 2012 and is a more traditional fragrance than many other Chanel creations of past and present.

Opens with a fanfare of citrus and patchouli, very clean and almost green. As dry-down begins, rose, sandalwood, olibanum and spiced vanilla emerge to add complexity and class to the overall experience.

Upon full dry-down, Coco Noir is perhaps similar to Coco Mademoiselle, however it is more woody/musky rather than amber in the base, and the vanilla a and olibanum is more pronounced.

As time passes, perhaps due to the multitude of base notes, it’s almost a chameleon-esque perfume which changes with the wind.

Coco Noir a warming and luxurious fragrance which can carry you from day to night with ease, more autumn/winter and even spring.

Coco Noir Eau de Parfum provided excellent longevity and lasted 6+ hours on my skin.

Overall, wearing Coco noir felt like wearing a gown with time-travelling powers to transport you to a more refined and classic era.

Longevity:

Top Notes:

Grapefruit, Bergamot, Orange

7. Allure Sensuelle

CHANEL-ALLURE-SENSUELLE

Review

Allure Sensuelle Eau De Parfum is a revelation. It is the sexy upgrade to the original Allure. Not only is it warm and spicy, but it’s also dazzling with floral and citrusy notes which truly sparkle.

The opening is a striking tsunami of patchouli sweet pepper and sandalwood. But allow it to settle and you will be rewarded for your patience. Upon dry-down powdery, feminine notes of iris, citrus, fruity and spicy woody accords. Subtle vanilla notes keep things sensual thoughout.

This perfume is complex and evolves nicely as the hours’ progress. Once fully settled the patchouli does relax its initial stranglehold and the vanilla, spices and sandalwood delight the senses.

Allure Sensuelle is an undeniably elegant autumn/winter fragrance that is rich, complex and extremely elegant.

I found it provided excellent longevity and lasted 7+ hours on my skin.

Overall, Allure Sensuelle is upliftingly fresh and zingy, although has a warm and spicy enticingly sexy side. A great example of how a modern oriental/spice scent should be.

8. Chanel Jersey Parfum

Chanel Jersey Parfum

Review

Chanel Jersey parfum is a truly beautiful feminine floral fragrance. Part of the ‘Les-Exclusifs’ collection is perhaps why it’s not so widely known. A fragrance you really must experience.

It opens primarily with lavender, then begins to reveal fields of wildflowers and grass. Subtle jasmine dances in and out. The vanilla and tonka bean are the starts of the base and combines with the musk enables this fragrance to perform well.

A highly sophisticated spring/summer fragrance that even smells expensive! Think of sedate summer walks, picnics, skimming stones, and generally feeling carefree.

Long-lasting at 5+ hours on my skin. Excellent performance for a spring/summer fragrance.

Overall, If you enjoy high class, classic smelling floral fragrances then look no further. Will make an excellent addition to your summer fragrance collection.

Conclusion

This concludes my ultimate guide to the Chanel perfumes that last the longest. As you can see from this list, there are both classic and modern fragrances to enjoy from a brand who are perhaps the ultimate in fragrance, certainly in overall style and sophistication.

Ultimately, Chanel is known for its uncompromising attention to detail when it comes to producing incredible fragrances that stand the test of time. I am sure that you will want to add at least one of their magnificent fragrances to your collection and you will be delighted to know that they offer many of the same scents in soaps, oils and other beauty products

Chanel is a brand that has earned the right of passage to your most treasured fragrance collection. From rather humble beginnings, Coco Chanel established the House of Chanel in 1910 when she opened her millinery shop in Paris. It was not for a further 3 years that in 1913 she then opened her first boutique (at this point, selling bespoke clothing). In 1921, perfumer Ernest Beaux was commissioned to create a classic fragrance for the growing Chanel brand. You may have heard of that fragrance, its called Chanel No5!

Make Your Perfume Last Longer: 4 Bonus Tips

Make Your Perfume Last Longer

1. Choose A Longer Lasting Fragrance

Imagine you have finally discovered and invested in your perfect fragrance. Would you want to dilute it? Of course not, you want it to last as long as possible and keep all of its perfume notes. This is why I tend to steer away from purchasing the eau de toilette version if more concentrated versions are available.

Related: How To Make Your Perfume Last Longer

Eau de Parfum (or if available, pure parfum) is the best way to go in my humble opinion. Only in rare circumstances would I opt for the Eau de Toilette version as it can have less longevity, although the initial sillage can be greater.

Here is a quick breakdown of the different concentrations:

TypeConcentration
Pure Parfum15 – 40% Perfume Oil
Eau De Parfum15 – 20% Perfume Oil
Eau De Toilette5 – 15% Perfume Oil
Cologne2 – 5% Perfume Oil

2. Know Where Best to Apply

If you are looking for maximum performance and impact of your chosen fragrance, then one spray to each of the pulse points on your wrists, neck, behind the ear are the best places.

At these vital points, your blood vessels lie closer to the surface of the skin that generates additional heat to help your scent evaporate and work its magic.

Additionally giving your cloths a quick spray is a great tip, just be careful about staining.

3. Don’t Forget To Re-apply

Over time, even the longest-lasting fragrance may need a top-up to reinvigorate the lighter notes in the blend that will have subsided. Although this will differ from fragrance to fragrance, re-applying every 5-6 hours will keep the scent alive without overpowering those around you.

4. Lock in Scent With Moisture

Using a good all-over moisturiser will not only keep your skin in tip-top condition, but it will also allow your skin to more easily absorb and internalise your fragrance.
