The best Hermés fragrances for men combine rich woods with spices, manly florals and decadent resins. We review 10 Hermés scents for your consideration.

1. Terre d’Hermès Eau de Toilette

Terre d’Hermès Eau de Toilette

Review

Terre d’Hermès Eau de Toilette is described as being “between the earth and sky”. It is inspired by materials including the alchemy of wood mixed with fruit and spices.

It’s a spicy, dry fragrance with a zesty kick created in 2006 by perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena. This scent won the FiFi Award for Luxe Men’s Fragrance of the Year in 2007.

The opening fruity notes of orange and grapefruit are bright and zesty. A floral heart of spicy/sweet pelargonium is dusted with pepper for a masculine feel. Upon dry-down, a heady mix of vetiver, cedar, patchouli and benzoin delight.

I felt this fragrance is best worn in the less intense months of autumn and spring to allow the citrus, pepper, and vetiver to truly shine. This is a classic Hermès masculine fragrance.

Performance from this EDT is excellent. Terre d’Hermès is perfect for everyday wear as it’s long-lasting with strong sillage and projection. You can expect 6+ hours of performance.

The bottle is classic and understated with a heavy black bottle, black lid, metal accents and minimalist Terre d’Hermès branding. The box is similarly muted in brown with warm orange and white branding coupled with metallic Hermes logos.

Mid Notes:

This pure parfum version of Terre d’Hermès is a woody chypre fragrance for men. It was launched in 2009 and not nose behind the fragrance is perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena.

The opening notes are the zesty citrus scents of sweet orange, and sharp grapefruit soon mingle with an earthy heart of flint. The base is deeper and woodier than the EDT version, with benzoin adding some welcome resinous hints.

It’s great for daily use and leans more towards being a daytime scent without being too overpowering—one to wear in spring and autumn. The deep woody notes also lend themselves well to evening spring/summer.

Terre d’Hermès Pure Parfum is a long-lasting scent with a moderate sillage. As you would expect with pure parfum, longevity is 8+ hours with more muted projection than the EDT version.

The bottle is squarer than its eau de toilette counterpart. Still, it is typically minimalist, with understated Terre d’Hermès branding in red on the bottle. The presentation box is black with red and white branding, couple with gold Hermes logos.

This fragrance has opens with fresh lemon that is enriched with cardamom and spices. A heart of tea and green notes are met with hints of sweet florals. Upon dry-down, woody notes, musk and amber work well with the lemon and spices.

Bel Ami Eau de Toilette is a classic woody chypre fragrance that was first launched in 1986. The nose behind this scent is perfumer Jean-Louis Sieuzac, and the name refers to the Guy de Maupassant novel of the same name.

This warm and sensual masculine fragrance opens brightly with crisp bergamot and juniper blended with coriander. A heart of Italian cypress and Canadian balsam cedar create a true outdoors feel. A woody base is warmed by warm benzoin and vibrant patchouli.

It’s an extremely wearable daytime scent for the cooler months of autumn and winter to enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors.

9. Equipage Eau de Toilette

Equipage Eau de Toilette

Review

Equipage Eau de Toilette is an Oriental Fougere (meaning “Fern” in French) for men first launched in 1970 and crafted by perfumer Guy Robert. It’s a spicy, dry fragrance that was the first men’s fragrance created by Hermes.

Opening notes of Equipage Eau de Toilette are initially bright with the crispness of Aldehydes and Bergamot. Manly spices of sage, nutmeg, tarragon, and marjoram soon follow.

The heart of this scent reveals fresh pine and rich carnation dusted with cinnamon. Upon dry-down, notes of sandalwood, oakmoss and vetiver cast their woody magic.

This is another great choice for an everyday fragrance for the confident mature man who wants a timeless composition. Perfect for daytime wear all year round.

Equipage Eau de Toilette  is a long-lasting fragrance at 7+ hours with good sillage and projection.

10. Equipage Geranium Eau de Toilette

Equipage Geranium Eau de Toilette

Review

Equipage Geranium Eau de Toilette is a new interpretation of the original Equipage scent. Jean-Claude Ellena developed this new edition in 2015 that shares some of the same DNA as the original.

This fragrance opens with green and earthy geranium with a minty edge that blooms beautifully from the first spray. A spicy heart (I get cloves and nutmeg) adds further depth and masculinity. Dries down to a sandalwood base that blends so well with the geranium and spices.

This is a daytime fragrance that works well for the in-between seasons of spring and autumn. I felt this is a more formal, dressy fragrance.

It has a moderate sillage and projection and lasts 6+, making it a wise choice for daytime events such as weddings, parties, lunches etc.

The bottle is the signature Hermes Classic collection style, it’s understated and minimalist without being dull. It features the embossed Hermes logo and black signature lid.
