The Montblanc brand is renowned for its luxury writing instruments, timepieces, jewellery, and fragrance. Montblanc fragrances for men blend contrasting fresh and spicy notes that embody the male spirit of adventure.

It all began when Alfred Nehemias and August Eberstein started producing hand-made pens in 1906. High-precision Swiss-movement watches of the highest calibre were later added to the Montblanc stable.

Montblanc entered the world of fragrance in 2001 with the launch of Presence Eau de Toilette for men. Staying true to their craftsmanship philosophy, the brand commissioned perfumers such as Olivier Pescheux, Antoine Maisondieu, and Corinne Cachen to create their fragrance collection.

10 Montblanc Fragrances For Men Reviewed

With an array of crowd-pleasing fruits, herbs, spices and woods, the best Montblanc fragrances for men are both lavish and refined. Here are 10 to consider.

1. Montblanc Explorer Eau de Parfum

Montblanc Explorer Eau de Parfum

Review

First on our list is Montblanc’s charismatic Explorer Eau de Parfum that was released in 2019. This woody fragrance has a daring, fresh punch, that adds welcome contrast.

Since Explorer is a woody scent, bright opening notes of bergamot spiced with pink pepper, and clary sage may surprise. The wood comes in through the heart of the fragrance with Haitian vetiver and leather to compliment it.

After dry-drown, the musky/sweet aroma of ambroxan cranks up the manliness. Woody notes, patchouli, and cacao pod all compete for your attention.

Performance is pretty good. Anyone within an arm’s length of you will be able to enjoy this scent as well for at least 4+ hours.

Since Explorer is meant for the outdoorsmen of the world, it’s perfect for daytime use in the spring, summer, and fall. So, turn off Netflix, get yourself outside!

The bottle is sleek with a transparent bottom, a textured middle, and topped with a glossy black cap.

Overall, Explorer is an incredible woody citrusy scent for any man who loves a touch of adventure. It has a Creed Aventus vibe going on, and that’s no bad thing.

Top Notes:

Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Clary Sage

Mid Notes:

Haitian Vetiver, Leather

Base Notes:

2. Montblanc Legend Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Legend Eau de Toilette

Review

Legend Eau de Toilette is one of Montblanc’s more unique scents for men. Perfumer Olivier Pescheux took a risk and made it fruity and sweet, perfect for a confident man who makes no excuses for smelling great.

This fragrance opens with sweet pineapple and zesty bergamot fused with feel-good florals like lavender and lemony verbena. The heart of Legend is even fruitier as you get notes of apple and dried fruits offset by geranium and oakmoss.

Upon dry-down, sandalwood and tonka bean add depth but never dominate. This fragrance ends up as a fruity/lavender combo with a spicy kick.

Legend’s sillage and longevity are moderate, so those around you will be able to smell this fragrance on you for around 5+ hours.

Considering Legend is a fruity/floral fragrance with a spicy vibe, it’s perfect for daytime use in any season. It’s a chilled casual sent that’s great for any occasion.

The glossy black bottle almost looks like a luxurious flask. The top is metal with a classic Montblanc topper. I love its minimalistic design and feel it’s still eye-catching.

Overall, this sweet fruity scent is a refreshing change from generic men’s fragrances, and will undoubtedly help you stand out from the crowd.

Top Notes:

Lavender, Pineapple, Bergamot, Lemon Verbena

Mid Notes:

Red Apple, Dried Fruits, Oakmoss, Geranium, Coumarin, Rose

3. Montblanc Legend Intense Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Legend Intense Eau de Toilette

Review

Legend Intense Eau de Toilette is a moodier version of the original scent with the genius addition of cardamom. This fragrance is another Olivier Pescheux creation and was released in 2013.

Legend Intense is still a sweet fruity fragrance with top notes of pineapple and bergamot. The heart of this fragrance is where the intensity comes in, as you will find cardamom and pepper mixed with apple.

To finish it off, tonka bean, cedar, amber, and oakmoss balance out the scent and are far more prominent than in the original Legend. It’s still fruity but spicier and less floral.

Longevity and sillage were also improved with this version. Legend Intense will stick around for 6+ hours and projects well.

As for when to wear, the additional spice of cardamom and pepper makes Legend Intense better for evening wear. This is still a versatile any-season fragrance.

The bottle is similar to the original Legend fragrance, but in a stunning matt grey to differentiate the scents.

Overall, even though Legend Intense is a fruity scent, it has a more complex middle and base that generates lots of compliments. Grab a bottle as this is soon to be discontinued.

Top Notes:

Pineapple, Bergamot

Mid Notes:

Red Apple, Cardamom, Pepperwood, Jasmine

4. Montblanc Legend Spirit Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Legend Spirit Eau de Toilette

Review

Released in 2016, Legend Spirit Eau de Toilette is an aquatic/citrus scent that gives an incredibly clean, shower-fresh feel.

Legend Spirit is still a fruity scent, but its opening is sharper, and zestier thanks to grapefruit and bergamot lightly dusted with pink pepper. Middle notes of lavender and cardamom intensify the fragrance are lifted by aquatic notes.

After this fragrance dries down, musk, cashmere wood, and oakmoss add masculine touches but never dominate. This remains a fresh aquatic/zesty fragrance with lavender adding cheer.

Longevity and sillage are relatively moderate as it will last around 4+ hours close to the body. Pretty good for a clean-smelling fragrance.

Legend Spirit is a great daytime scent in the spring and summer thanks to its citrusy notes. It’s casual and bright, so ideal for running errands, hitting the gym, and is even office safe.

Again, the bottle is the same classy shape as the original Legend fragrance, but this one is a glossy white with a metal top.

Overall, Legend Spirit is a great middle-ground between the fruity original and the intense version. Just what you need to feel fresh and stylish.

Top Notes:

Grapefruit, Bergamot, Pink Pepper

Mid Notes:

Water Notes, Lavender, Cardamom

Base Notes:

5. Montblanc Legend Night Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Legend Night Eau de Toilette

Review

Legend Night Eau de Toilette is a woody aromatic scent teaming with lots of compliment inducing notes such as vanilla, mint and lavender. Perfumers Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux created this scent in 2017.

A spicy/fresh opening of cardamom, mint, sage, and bergamot is first to delight. A little fruit peeks through in the heart with green apple, but lavender, violet, cedar, and fir resin overpower.

Upon dry-down, vanilla soon dominates. Cedar, musk, and patchouli discreetly come through. Its slightly sweet, spicy, with a pleasant lavender hit.

Longevity and sillage are moderate, and the scent should last close to your body for 4+ hours. This is not a beast-mode frag, more for discreet wear.

This aromatic woody scent is perfect for cold fall and winter nights. Wear it on a dinner date, and you’re sure to impress.

The bottle is shaped the same as the other Legend fragrances, but this one is a unique ombre amber colour with a glossy black top.

Overall, Legend Night is a classy evening scent, especially good if you’re after an aromatic woody/vanilla fragrance with a lavender vibe. I just wish it projected better.

Top Notes:

Cardamom, Mint, Clary Sage, Bergamot

Mid Notes:

Apple, Lavender, Violet, Cedar, Fir Resin

6. Montblanc Legend Eau de Parfum

Montblanc Legend Eau de Parfum

Review

Legend Eau de Parfum shares much of the same DNA as the original yet amplifies the citrus and wood. Released in 2020, the nose behind this fragrance is French perfumer Olivier Pescheux.

This fragrance opens up with zesty bergamot and muted floral-green notes of violet leaf. Woody notes dominate the heart, gently supported by white florals of jasmine and magnolia. Masculine notes of leather and oakmoss come through once fully settled.

This EDP version is a slow burner. The more intense notes of wood, leather and leafy greens last for 6+ hours. Sillage and projection are reasonably good but not huge.

The warm woodsy notes mixed with the bright florals make this a great fragrance for either spring, summer and autumn daytime use. It’s quite a casual, easygoing fragrance that is also office safe.

The bottle is the same shape as the rest of the Legend line but is entirely black except for the brand’s name in gold around the topper.

Overall, Legend Eau de Parfum is an excellent buy as still has that familiar Legend feel but is longer lasting and less sweet.

Top Notes:

Bergamot, Violet Leaves

Mid Notes:

Woodsy Notes, Jasmine, Magnolia

Base Notes:

Leather, Oakmoss

7. Montblanc Presence Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Presence Eau de Toilette

Review

Presence Eau de Toilette is a warming oriental spicy masculine fragrance with a cheeky apple twist. This fragrance was released in 2001, the perfumer responsible was Corinne Cachen.

This fragrance opens with a warm and spicy blast of cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger, with the merest splash of bergamot. The heart reveals a generous serving of crisp apple.

Upon dry-down, sweet tonka bean is most noticeable with its sensual vanilla scent. It is further bolstered by amber, musk, and woods.

Performance of Presence is not staggering, and I will confess I expected better. This fragrance should last around 3+ hours before becoming a skin scent with moderate sillage and projection. It smells fantastic, though!

This warm, spicy fragrance is perfect for the autumn/winter in either the day or night. As it’s reasonably light I feel it’s ideal for a colder weather office scent.

The bottle is a unique semicircle shape made out of solid glass. The clear glass allows consumers to see the light blue liquid within, which contrasts nicely with the black lid.

Overall, Presence Eau de Toilette is a nicely spiced fragrance that reveals a fresh apple kick. It’s a more mature and refined version of JPG Le Male.

Top Notes:

Cinnamon, Cardamom, Ginger, Bergamot

Mid Notes:

Apple, Sage, Heliotrope

Base Notes:

Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Amber, White Musk, Teak Wood

8. Montblanc Individuel Eau de Toilette

 Montblanc Individuel Eau de Toilette

Review

Individuel Eau de Toilette is a sweet and fruity oriental woody scent that is fresh and modern. Created by perfumer Pierre Bourdon of Frédéric Malle fame, this fragrance was launched in 2013.

The opening of Individuel is striking, with fresh notes of juniper and mint. Sweet raspberry, cinnamon, and bright lavender soon follow. A smooth floral heart of orange blossom, violet, and geranium add balance.

Upon dry-down, sweet vanilla and rich chocolate work tirelessly with the initial raspberry to create an almost gourmand, crowd-pleasing scent.

A complex scent bubble will surround you for a moderate 4+ hours with this fragrance. Sillage and projection are not enormous but undoubtedly noticeable.

Individuel Eau de Toilette is a sweet, fruity fragrance with a fresh opening and a warm dry-down. It’s perfect for daytime use in any season and any occasion.

This fragrance is packaged in a beautiful almond-shaped bottle. The clear glass lets users see the sparkling blue liquid within, and it is topped with a sparkling silver lid.

Sweet fruity scents are not limited to women, and Montblanc’s Individuel illustrates that perfectly. This is a fantastic mix of sweet fruits and flowers with warm spicy undertones.

9. Montblanc Emblem Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Emblem Eau de Toilette

Review

Emblem Eau de Toilette was released in 2014 and is the creation of perfumer Sonia Constant. The opening is quite sharp but soon mellows to reveal a warm and spicy confident personality.

The opening is clean and crisp, with bright grapefruit dusted with spicy cardamom and sage. A heart of cinnamon and violet leaf gives the fragrance dimension, while the base notes of deep wood and tonka bean add masculinity.

The longevity of this fragrance is moderate and will last around 3+ hours. Sillage was hard to determine, as the scent will stay close to your body. Spray it on your clothes rather than your skin to make this scent last and project better.

Since Emblem is a warm scent with an unusual freshness, it’s ideal for evening use in the spring/summer or daytime use in fall or winter to warm things up.

Emblem’s bottle is one of the most unique ones in Montblanc’s fragrance collection. The glossy black bottle is shaped like Montblanc’s logo, the snow-covered peak of the highest European mountain, Mont Blanc.

Overall, Emblem is a feel-good masculine scent that is warm and spicy. The cardamon and violet combo are especially good. The uniquely-shaped bottle alone is enough to want it!

10. Montblanc Emblem Intense Eau de Toilette

Montblanc Emblem Intense Eau de Toilette

Review

Last but not least is Emblem Intense Eau de Toilette. Both the original and intense versions were launched simultaneously in Spring of 2014. They act as the embodiment of the brand’s elegance and refinement.

Although this is meant to be an intense version of the original Emblem, it’s quite a unique fragrance outright. Top notes of cardamom, clary sage, grapefruit, and coriander create a great mix of fresh vs warming.

Emblem Intense’s cranks up the heat even more with notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Rose and violet leaf and brightness, plus a touch of natural freshness come from green apples.

Upon dry-down, suede, tonka bean, patchouli, and wood shine through. The rose, cinnamon and tonka bean are the real stars of the show.

This intense version has excellent performance, even though its an EDT. Anyone around you should smell this fragrance for 6+ hours, 2 feet away.

Emblem Intense is a versatile any-season fragrance for either day or night. As it has a bit of everything going on, spice, floral notes as well as freshness.

The bottle is the same unique shape as the original Emblem, but this one is shiny silver. Just when we thought the original bottle was eye-catching, this one comes out and looks even better!

Overall, if you loved Emblem, you won’t be able to put down Emblem Intense. This warm and spicy fragrance strikes an excellent balance between the fresh rose and the spicy-sweet cinnamon and tonka.

Top Notes:

Cardamom, Clary Sage, Grapefruit, Coriander
