Since launching their first male cologne, Chanel Pour Monsieurin 1955, Chanel has created some of the world’s most iconic male fragrances. The best Chanel fragrances for men project a sense of masculine style, class and sophistication. We have selected our favourite 10 to review today.

Chanel began their journey into the world of fragrance way back in 1921, with the release of the now-iconic feminine Chanel No. 5. During this era, men’s fragrance seemed to take a back seat. Aftershaves and colognes were formulaic and relied on the same ‘masculine’ notes in varying combinations.

The 1990s saw a change in this approach as the perfume the house finally began to experiment. The outcome was the release of several modern male Chanel scents that shook the very foundation of perfumery.

10 Best Chanel Fragrances for Men

We’ve rounded up 10 of the best Chanel fragrances for men that have one thing in common; classic ingredients blended to Chanel perfection.

1. Bleu De Chanel Parfum

Bleu De Chanel Parfum

Review

One of Chanel’s most iconic male fragrances, Bleu de Chanel Parfum represents a modern twist on classic masculine perfume notes. This now-classic fragrance has been overwhelmingly popular since its launch.

Opening with lemon zest, bergamot and a touch of mint that soon mellow into masculine florals of lavender and geranium. A hint of pineapple adds a subtle sweetness. Cedar and amberwood work brilliantly with creamy tonka bean. Iso E Super adds warmth. A woody/floral masterpiece.

This is an incredibly versatile fragrance which can be worn day or night in any season, though the winter chill can be a little hard on it. With decent sillage and 6+ hours of durable staying power, this is a solid day-to-day cologne for men who like to smell both classy and fresh.

The simple, square bottle is understated but still rather beautiful thanks to the dark glass. Of course, this won’t stand out on a crowded dressing table, but that’s hardly a failing.

Overall, Bleu de Chanel Parfum is an aromatic and sophisticated combination of citrus, woods and lavender. A real crowd-pleaser.

Top Notes:

Lemon Zest, Bergamot, Mint, Artemisia

Mid Notes:

Lavender, Geranium, Green Notes, Pineapple

Base Notes:

Cedar, Sandalwood, Iso E Super, Tonka Bean, Amberwood

2. Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême

Review

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is somewhat of a love letter to its predecessors in the Allure range. Aromatic and spicy, this blend leans into traditional masculinity more firmly than the previous iterations.

Opening with sage, orange, cypress and mint that are deliciously invigorating, herby and aromatic. A heart of pepper adds a sprinkle of masculine spice. The base is musky and woody with a tidal-wave of creamy tonka bean that surfaces to smooth any sharp edges. Fantastic

An extremely durable cologne lasting 5+ hours with excellent sillage, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is the perfect choice for spring and summer. Better still, it can see you through the day and into the evening if you apply it to your shirt as well as your skin.

A gunmetal grey version of the original bottle with a black topper, complete with a silver band, looks classy and contemporary.

Overall, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is fresh, masculine, and downright sexy.

Top Notes:

Sage, Mandarin Orange, Mint, Cypress

Mid Notes:

Pepper

Base Notes:

Musk, Sandalwood, Cedar, Tonka Bean

3. Allure Homme Sport Cologne

Allure Homme Sport Cologne

Review

Originally launched in 2007 and updated in 2016, Allure Homme Sport Cologne is arguably one of the best designer citrus fragrances on the market.

Begins with an incredibly refreshing citrus opening of orange, bergamot, lemon and grapefruit. Although neroli and aldehydes are listed, I could not detect them. Spice and warming resin soon creep in to provide an almost medicinal scent. A supportive base of creamy tonka bean, cedar, grassy vetiver and musk add welcome depth. A hint of pepper creeps in and out.

With a moderate sillage of 4+ hours and staying power, this is a clean and refreshing fragrance which is perfect for summer days when it will cut through the warm air to lift your mood.

Presented in the same bottle as the original, this version nonetheless follows suit in lightening its aesthetics as well as its scent. The shiny topper with its black band makes more of a difference than you might expect.

Overall, Allure Homme Sport Cologne is a head-turning citrus summer creation that will get you noticed for all the right reasons.

Top Notes:

Aldehydes, Orange, Mandarin Orange, Grapefruit, Neroli, Bergamot, Lemon

Mid Notes:

Spices, Fir Resin, Elemi Resin

Base Notes:

Tonka Bean, Atlas, Cedar, Vetiver, White Musk, Pepper

4. Allure Homme Eau de Toilette

Allure Homme Eau de Toilette

Review

Launched in 1999, Allure Pour Homme remains a firm favourite due to its incredible complement generating abilities.

Incredibly complex and sensual, Allure Pour Homme opens with a mix of spicy, floral, and fruity notes which include ginger, peach, lavender and lemon. This fresh and sharp first wave mellows as the heart notes take over, a blend of woody and floral notes which includes cedar, rose, pepper, freesia, and vetiver. Leather, amber, coconut, vanilla, and oakmoss emerge, and this fragrance becomes sweet and warm.

Perfect for winter days and early spring mornings, this fragrance has a soft sillage but surprising staying power. You can expect 4 to 5 hours of wear from this cologne, and up to 8 hours when it is applied to clothing.

Chanel is known for simplicity and elegance, and Allure Pour Homme does not deviate from this tradition. Clean cut lines, clear glass, and a pearlescent topper make it simple yet effective.

Overall, Allure Pour Homme is anything but simple, which makes this fragrance a gorgeous contradiction. Fresh, spicy and woody, the vanilla citrus and tonka bean really stand out.

Top Notes:

Ginger, Lavender, Mandarin Orange, Peach, Bergamot, Lemon

Mid Notes:

Gardenia, Patchouli, Freesia, Jasmine, Vetiver, Anise, Cedar, Pepper, Rose, Brazilian Rosewood

Base Notes:

Leather, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Amber, Musk, Benzoin, Coconut, Oakmoss, Vanilla

5. Allure Homme Édition Blanche Eau de Parfum

Allure Homme Édition Blanche Eau de Parfum

Review

Allure Homme Edition Blanche is an oriental woody take on Allure Pour Homme. Stunningly simple yet effective, this is now a firm favourite with Chanel fans.

Bergamot and lemon make up the top layer of this fresh and invigorating cologne, with the initial opening being almost sour. A heart of sweet, woody notes soon adds a masculine touch. Upon dry-down, grassy vetiver and spiced vanilla is what brings the whole fragrance together in a cohesive and utterly irresistible form.

Spring and summer days are the best environment for this complex and delicate cologne. While the sillage is quite strong, the staying power is moderate; you’ll generally only get 4 hours of wear out of one application. Apply the fragrance to your clothes and hair for a slight boost, but expect to reapply.

The block, pearlescent silver of this bottle certainly makes it stand out, and the white topper makes the ‘Chanel’ logo on its shining band stand out.

Overall, a delightful citrus/vanilla combo that’s perfect for spring/summer.

Top Notes:

Bergamot, Lemon

Mid Notes:

Woody Notes, Sandalwood

Base Notes:

Vetiver, Madagascar Vanilla

6. Égoïste Eau de Toilette

Égoïste Eau de Toilette

Review

A spicy and traditional cologne which makes use of masculine ingredients and tempers them with delicate floral notes, Égoïste has been in vogue since it was launched in 1990.

Unlike many scents, this cologne opens with woody notes of mahogany and Brazilian rosewood, tempering them with mandarin orange and coriander. This dry and rich first wave is balanced by the spicy and floral heart notes of cinnamon, rose, and carnation. It is the base notes which really steal the show, however; dark tobacco is present at every stage, backed up by vanilla, amber, leather, and sandalwood.

With considerable sillage and enormous staying power, Egoiste is perfect for winter evenings when the warming and spicy notes will bloom in the cold air. Expect 5 to 6 hours of wear from each application.

Another classically elegant bottle, this one is reminiscent of Chanel No. 5. Still, the angular, matte black topper gives it a masculine edge.

Overall, Égoïste Eau de Toilette is a dark woody/tobacco masculine cologne with a cheeky twist of rose. Still amazing.

Top Notes:

Mahogany, Sicilian Mandarin, Brazilian Rosewood, Coriander

Mid Notes:

Carnation, Cinnamon, Damask Rose

Base Notes:

Leather, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Tobacco, Amber

7. Platinum Égoïste Eau de Toilette

Platinum Égoïste Eau de Toilette

Review

Launched in 1993, Platinum Égoïste Eau de Toilette is the younger, slightly less traditional sibling to the original. With more floral notes, it takes a softer, sweeter approach.

This cologne opens with a herbal and floral blend of rosemary, neroli, and lavender that is slightly medicinal in its approach. Still, geranium takes the edge off and blooms into a sweet/green floral. A discreet base of warm amber, sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver, and cedar soon creep in. Smells as good today as it did nearly 30 years ago.

Perfect for spring and summer afternoons, this perfume has a heavy sillage and an incredibly durable scent which will last for a solid 4 to 6 hours depending on what you do through the day.

Presented in the same bottle as the original with the simple addition of a shiny topper, Egoiste Platinum is stunning, sophisticated, and clean-cut.

Overall Platinum Égoïste Eau de Toilette is an electric combination of manly florals, fresh spices and wood. Incredible.

Top Notes:

Rosemary, Lavender, Neroli, Petitgrain

Mid Notes:

Galbanum, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Geranium

Base Notes:

Amber, Sandalwood, Oakmoss, Vetiver, Cedar

8. Pour Monsieur Eau de Parfum

Pour Monsieur Eau de Parfum

Review

Launched in 2016, Pour Monsieur Eau de Parfum is the perfect cologne for the modern man. Evocatively straightforward, this is a statement-piece of a fragrance which conveys power and confidence.

Lemon is undoubtedly the star of this show; it dominates the top notes, flanked by lavender, and remains in the undercurrent even as the heart notes of nutmeg and vanilla bleed into the fore. The base of vetiver is mild, yet present and cohesive, bringing the rest of the notes together with a slight musky vibe.

This is an incredibly versatile cologne which can be worn at almost any time or event. Nonetheless, it is far more suited to daytime wear than evenings and fades more quickly in winter. The mild sillage and moderate durability mean you can expect around 4 hours of wear from Pour Monsieur on a good day.

Presented in a tall, elegant bottle with a grey and silver topper that contrasts the clear glass body; this sophisticated simplicity makes it feel mature.

Overall, Pour Monsieur Eau de Parfum is a grown-up, fresh-oriental cologne with a hint of musk which is perfect for any occasion.

Top Notes:

Lavender, Lemon

Mid Notes:

Vanilla

Base Notes:

Vetiver, Nutmeg

9. Antaeus Eau de Toilette

Antaeus Eau de Toilette

Review

Named for the Greek demigod, Antaeus is strong yet gentle, just like the fabled man himself. Using notes most commonly seen in the ’80s, this is a cologne which balances strength with expression.

The complex array of top notes, including myrrh, lemon, bergamot, lime, coriander, and clary sage, does not blend well at first. The sharp zest of lemon and lime, backed up by the musky, herbal scent of sage is what comes through first.

Once this first wave fades the spicy, citric warmth of lime stays and mixed with the floral heart notes of rose, jasmine, thyme, and basil. Throughout the evolution of this cologne, the base note of castoreum is potent. Still, when the top and mid notes fade, the base notes of labdanum, patchouli and oakmoss shine through.

With an enormous sillage, this is an incredibly potent fragrance which will last for a solid 7 hours following application, especially if you put it on your clothes, too. Best worn in cold weather, this is a perfect scent for winter evenings.

Antaeus is a striking cologne; the tall, shining black bottle is eye-catching. In fact, it really can’t help but stand out no matter where you put it.

Overall, Antaeus Eau de Toilette is the perfect ode to its namesake; strong and striking, yet complex and intensely sensual. Not a blind buy due to castoreum so test it first!

Top Notes:

Coriander, Bergamot, Amalfi, Lemon, Lime, Clary Sage, Myrhh

Mid Notes:

Jasmine, Thyme, Rose, Basil

Base Notes:

Labdanum, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Castoreum

10. 1957 Les Exclusifs De Chanel – Eau de Parfum

Antaeus Eau de Toilette

Review

‘Chanel 1957’ is a sophisticated cologne, both in terms of its scent and its origins. A part of the Les Exclusifs De Chanel line, 1957 is an ode to many significant numbers in the history of the brand. 1957 was the year in which Gabrielle Chanel was consecrated in America. However the 19th was also her birthday, and 57 was the street number of the biggest US Chanel store. 1957 is all about the deceptively simple.

Top notes of pink pepper, coriander, musk, bergamot and aldehydes give Chanel 1957 a sharp, spicy, and fresh opening. It soon blooms into a floral and musky scent thanks to the heart notes of musk, jasmine, and orange blossom. The base notes of orris, cashmeran, cedar, honey, and vanilla give this cologne a surprisingly sweet finish that is more androgynous than masculine.

Perfect for spring and summer days, this is a potent men’s’ fragrance with decent sillage and superior staying power of 6+ hours.

This bottle is very reminiscent of the classic Chanel No. 5 bottle.

Overall, Chanel 1957 is quite simply a Chanel masterpiece. Classy and deceptively simple with a powdery, musky white floral scent.

Top Notes:

Pink Pepper, Coriander, White Musk, Bergamot, Aldehydes

Mid Notes:

Orange Blossom, White Musk, Jasmine

Base Notes:

Vanilla, Honey, White Musk, Cedar, Cashmeran, Orris
