Review

First up is the delightfully masculine Dylan Blue Pour Homme. This aromatic fougere fragrance was launched in 2016 and created by Spanish perfumer, Alberto Morillas.

The opening notes are fresh, with zesty bergamot and grapefruit softened by watery notes and mild fig leaf. A heart of violet leaf, earthy patchouli, and salty/sweet ambroxan are most prominent. Upon dry-down, the base is smoky and musky with a touch of tonka.

As for when to wear, Dylan Blue Pour Homme is an excellent fragrance for spring/summer and even creeping into autumn. For me personally, it’s more of a smart/casual daytime fragrance that stands up well to evening wear.

Performance is good, with decent sillage and projection. You can expect 6+ hours of wear before it fades, so is ideal if you want a lasting scent.

Overall, Dylan Blue Pour Homme is an excellent all-round fragrance that smells masculine and fresh, yet has a deeper, more mysterious side.

Review

Eros Eau de Toilette is a fresh oriental-woody fragrance with a vanilla kick that is a real crowd-pleaser. The Versace Eros collection is inspired by Greek mythology and this scent was created by French perfumer Aurelien Guichard.

Opening notes are initially minty, with green apple and lemon, giving it a fresh fruitiness. A heart of creamy tonka bean, earthy geranium and sweet ambroxan add a layer in intrigue. Upon dry-down, a sensual base of vanilla-coated wood adds depth.

As for when to wear, Eros definitely leans more towards nighttime wear, despite its freshness, and is more of an autumn and winter fragrance but really could be worn all year round.

The performance was better than expected for an EDT with relatively light notes up-top. Moderate to heavy sillage and projection, with 6+ hours of longevity. The perfect choice for making an impact, wherever it is you’re going.

Overall, if you are looking for a sexy smelling masculine fragrance that’s initially fresh, yet evolves into something more provocative, then look no further.

Review

Man Eau Fraîche Eau de Toilette is a fresh, zesty masculine fragrance with touches of musk and woody notes. It was created by French perfumer Olivier Cresp for Versace in 2006 and still remains a popular spring/summer Versace fragrance.

The opening notes of Man Eau Fraîche are fresh, with crisp bergamot and lemon dusted with cardamom. Sweet carambola (also known as star fruit) is also present. A spicy heart reveals tarragon, sage, and pepper that works well with the initial zest. Finally, a light woody/musky base provides a little glamour.

This light, fresh fragrance is definitely more of a summer scent that works best during the day. It’s chilled, casual and fresh. Perfect as a holiday or office scent.

Performance is obviously not incredible as this is a citrus focused scent. You can expect 3-4 hours of performance before it becomes a skin scent. Aside from the initial opening blast, it has a moderate sillage/projection.

Cosy and effortlessly classy, Oud Noir Pour Homme Eau de Parfum is a sublime oriental woody fragrance for men, that was launched by Versace in 2013.

The opening notes of Oud Noir Pour Homme are bitter orange, neroli and black pepper. These attention-grabbing notes combined with cardamom, saffron and olibanum. Review

Brace yourself for a celebration of passion and self-confidence. Created in 2012 by Olivier Pescheux, Eros Flame has been described as “cold and hot, sweet and spicy, light and shadow” – it’s a composition of contrasts.

Eros Flame opens with a burst of bitter orange, neroli and spicy black pepper. A contrasting floral heart of geranium performs a complete about-turn from the striking opening. Upon dry-down, rich woods blended with tonka bean and vanilla add a layer of sultry sweet decadence. Classy.

It’s a fragrance that works best in the autumn/winter months (thanks to the warmth of pepper and woods coupled with the sweetness of tonka bean and vanilla).

Performance is good. Eros Flame lasts 6+ hours with decent sillage and projection, so is perfect when you want to make a lasting impact with your scent.

Review

Santal Boisé Eau de Parfum embodies the Atelier Versace dedication to excellence. This fragrance is part of a collection that includes five other luxury scents that each have one ingredient as a theme. Atelier Versace Santal Boisé was created by Christophe Raynaud.

This upside-down fragrance opens with the woody, sweet and slightly floral note of Sri Lankan sandalwood. A heart of spicy-aromatic (and somewhat bitter) Cypriol create balance. Saffron in the base releases a dusty floral scent that is dry and bitter-sweet. Wow!

As for when to wear, Santal Boisé is definitely a dressy evening fragrance that should be worn during the autumn/winter months. One that’s worth getting dressed up to impress.

Performance is excellent, you can expect 8+ hours with a heavy sillage and projection. If you’re looking for a manly spicy/woody fragrance that packs a punch, then look no further.

Presented in a hand-made, sculptural black glass bottle with gold accents (such as the Versace Medusa logo) it’s extraordinarily opulent and unbelievably stylish.

Overall, Versace has taken a giant leap forward with Santal Boisé Eau de Parfum. This incredible spicy-woody-earthy fragrance is hugely niche but well worth checking out. Stunning. Also try Atkinsons Oud Save The King

Launched in 1984, Versace L’Homme is an absolute classic that still remains popular today. It’s sharp and warming at the same time with a sensual leathery finish.

The opening of Versace L’Homme is a wave of zesty lemon and bergamot sprinkled with herb notes of petitgrain and basil. Carnation, cinnamon, and patchouli lead the charge from the heart and are supported by light woods. Upon dry-down, mossy musky-leather and sweet vanilla add depth.

Versace L’Homme is a versatile masculine fragrance that works well for day or evening wear. Seasonally it probably leans more to autumn/winter wear and easing into spring.

Review

Blue Jeans for Men Eau de Toilette is another classic masculine Versace fragrance. First launched in 1994, this a light, fresh and youthful offering is from the Gianni Versace Jeans Couture collection and was created by French perfumer, Jean-Pierre Bethouart.

Blue Jeans for Men opens with a citrus cocktail of orange, lemon and bergamot with galbanum adding fresh green notes. A seriously floral heart of lavender, jasmine and violet are masculinised by nutmeg and juniper. This fragrance settles nicely into a woody/musky base.

As for when to wear, it’s a great daytime fragrance that works well in spring and summer. Think holidays, summer walks, outside dining with friends.

Relatively long-lasting at 4+ hours with moderate sillage, making it a great casual everyday fragrance.

I wore Blue Jeans for Men throughout the mid-90s, and sampling it again is a treat. It remains the same uplifting, feel-good masculine fresh/spicy/floral/woody fragrance that is so easy to wear.

10. The Dreamer Eau de Toilette

Versace The Dreamer Eau de Toilette
Credit: Versace

Review

Launched in the 2010s, The Dreamer is a 90’s throwback that’s Oriental in composition and smells both warm and fresh.

Opening notes of juniper and tarragon provide a fresh, yet spiced profile. However, artesmia adds an unusually bitter, almost medicinal vibe that does not delight and can take 20-30 minutes to settle. A floral heart of lily and iris bring stability, while flax adds a fresh laundry vibe. The base of amber and tobacco blossom is warm and sensual.

The Dreamer works well for day or night, despite being classed as an Oriental fragrance. Can be worn throughout the year, but maybe a little more suited for spring/autumn/winter rather than full-on summer.

It’s long-lasting at 6+ hours with a moderate sillage and projection. The tobacco blossom and iris project really well.

Overall, The Dreamer is a gorgeous mix of warmth, white florals and tobacco that needs a little patience for it to settle before you get your reward. Recommended.

Top Notes:

Juniper, Tarragon, Artemisia

Mid Notes:

Lily, Iris, Flax

Base Notes:

Amber, Tobacco Blossom
