I wanted to deep-dive into the entire current Versace Eros collection of fragrances for a full comparison and review of Versace Eros EDT vs EDP vs Parfum vs Flame.

Unlike the many luxury blue fragrances on the market, such as the Bleu de Chanel and Paco Rabanne Invictus collections, the Versace Eros range smells a little more complex by blending fresh citrus and mint with smooth woods and male-leaning floral notes.

Versace Eros Eau de Toilette was launched in 2012. This crowd-pleasing aromatic-woody masterpiece was an instant hit. The next release was the fiery Eros Flame in 2018, followed by the seductive Eros Eau de Parfum in 2020, and the versatile Eros Parfum in 2021.

I popped in-store to Harrods in London to compare Versace Eros EDT vs EDP vs Parfum vs Flame. I will review each fragrance individually and then declare the outright winner at the end.

1. Versace Eros Eau de Toilette

Versace Eros Eau de Toilette

Review

The fragrance that gave birth to the entire collection, Versace Eros Eau de Toilette is the original oriental-woody fragrance with a vanilla kick that is a real crowd-pleaser. Inspired by Greek mythology and created by French perfumer Aurelien Guichard in 2012.

Opening notes are initially minty, with green apple and lemon, giving it a fresh fruitiness. A heart of creamy tonka bean, earthy geranium and sweet ambroxan add a layer in intrigue. Upon dry-down, a sensual base of vanilla-coated wood adds depth.

As for when to wear, Eros EDT definitely leans more towards nighttime wear, despite its freshness. I would recommend this fragrance for any season, but perhaps not a full-on hot summer’s day scent that Sauvage EDT can carry off.

The performance is great and better than expected from an EDT with relatively light notes up-top. Moderate to heavy sillage and projection, with 6+ hours of longevity, what more could you want?

Top Notes:

Mint, Green Apple, Lemon

Mid Notes:

Tonka Bean, Geranium, Ambroxan

Base Notes:

Vanilla, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Cedar

Longevity 6+ hours

Benefits & Drawbacks

ProsHead-turning male freshie with brilliant performance.
ConsDoes overpower for the first hour, so be warned.

2. Versace Eros Eau de Parfum

Versace Eros Eau de Parfum

Review

Versace Eros Eau de Parfum retains the fresh oriental-woody DNA of the original EDT but takes it down a notch on the nuclear projection scale. This masculine fragrance was launched in 2020.

The opening notes are still a fresh minty-apple combo with a touch of citrus, but the ambroxan explosion of the EDT is more muted in the heart, relying on geranium and sage to add male confidence.

Upon dry-down, seductive vanilla still dominates, supported by various woody notes and a subtle hint of patchouli that hovers in the background nicely. Settles to a confident and versatile fresh woody scent.

As for when to wear, Eros Eau de Parfum still leans more towards evening wear and can be worn during any season. Smells dressy and confident. If you like fragrances similar to Armani Acqua di Gio you will enjoy this.

The performance is good, with decent projection and sillage. You can expect 5+ hours of longevity. Creates a nice scent bubble that will draw people in for a closer sniff.

Top Notes:

Italian lemon and mandarin, mint oil, candied apple

Mid Notes:

Geranium flower, Clary sage essence, ambermax

Base Notes:

Cedarwood Atlas and Virginia, Vetiver Orpur essence, Patchouli Coeur Orpour essence, sandalwood, vanilla

Seasons & Longevity

Longevity 5+ hours

Benefits & Drawbacks

ProsA more versatile Versace Eros than the EDT that’s ideal for any occasion and situation.
ConsDoes not project as well as the EDT original.

3. Versace Eros Parfum

Versace Eros Parfum

Review

Launched in 2021, Versace Eros Parfum is a warmer interpretation of the oriental-woody Eros scent bringing a crowd-pleasing blast of warm reason and vanilla into the mix.

Lemon, orange and mint provide a bright yet slightly pepper-dusted opening. In the heart, lavender and sage mingle with the manly floral note of geranium.

Upon dry-down, warming amber-like rich resin and vanilla bring depth and a welcome touch of sweetness to balance the initial citrus and mint. Settles to a well-balanced blend of reason, vanilla, mint and fresh fruits.

In my opinion, Versace Eros Parfum is more versatile than it reads on paper. I would happily wear this during any season, but more from late afternoon into the evening.

The performance is excellent and this beauty will last you 8+ hours with moderate but noticeable sillage and projection. The perfect choice as a day to night scent that has more in common with Eros Flame (up next) than Eros EDT.

Top Notes:

Lemon, Mandarin, Litsea Cubeba, Elemi, Black Pepper

Mid Notes:

Pomarose, Geranium, Lavender, Sage

Base Notes:

Benzoin Resinoid, Patchouli and Vanilla

Seasons & Longevity

Any Season
Longevity 8+ hours

Benefits & Drawbacks

ProsA confident male scent that smells expensive and performs well.
ConsIf you love the freshness of the EDT, then this may not be for you.

4. Versace Eros Flame Eau de Parfum

Versace Eros Flame Eau de Parfum

Review

Created in 2018 by Olivier Pescheux, Versace Eros Flame has been described as “cold and hot, sweet and spicy, light and shadow” – it’s a composition of contrasts.

An opening burst of bitter orange, neroli and spicy black pepper lead nicely into a floral heart of manly geranium and clean rose.

In the base, rich woods and oakmoss blend with tonka bean, vanilla and vetiver to bring a layer of sultry sweet decadence. Classy, timeless, sophisticated.

It’s a fragrance that works best in the autumn/winter/spring seasons (thanks to the warmth of pepper and woods coupled with the sweetness of vanilla and freshness of citrus).

The performance of Eros Flame is good so you can expect 6+ hours with decent sillage and projection, so is perfect when you want to make a lasting impact with your scent.

Andrew’s Top Pick

best Versace Eros fragrance

Versace Eros Parfum

My top pick is Versace Eros Parfum because although it’s a warmer interpretation of the original oriental-woody EDT, the parfum version still brings in the freshness of mint and citrus. Fantastic.

I tested this fragrance in-store at Harrods of Knightsbridge, London.

Conclusion

So, there you have it… Versace Eros EDT vs EDP vs Parfum vs Flame, tried, tested and compared. If I was going to blind buy or gift, the EDT is great for someone young getting into fragrance, and the Parfum is my overall favourite.

I would say Eros Eau de Parfum is the more mature in the collection (but not ‘old man’), and Flame Eau de Parfum is much more attention-seeking than I personally prefer, so perfect for you young single guys (ah, those were the days!).

All 4 fragrances are currently available in 50, 100 and 200ml (1.7, 3.4, 6.8 oz) size bottles. As always, I recommend you try each fragrance in-store (or order samples online) and decide which one you prefer. Do let them dry down for at least 20-30 minutes before making your final decision.
