I have worn Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum for years, and it remains one of those fragrances I can reach for without even thinking about it.
For our recent wedding anniversary, Andrew bought me a bottle of the new Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu, so I now have both sitting happily in my collection. Naturally, I couldn’t resist comparing them!
Both fragrances share that unmistakably elegant Coco Mademoiselle character, with rose, jasmine and patchouli running through them. But on my skin, they are surprisingly different.
The original is fresher and more of an everyday signature scent, while Crush Absolu brings a fruitier, powdery warmth to the collection.

Armed with two bottles of both Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum and Crush Absolu, it’s time to review, test and compare.
1. Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu
Review
Created by Chanel’s in-house perfumer Olivier Polge, Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu is a fruity, floral and woody-ambery interpretation of the Coco Mademoiselle signature.
The opening is where I notice the biggest difference. Lychee and grapefruit give Crush Absolu a juicy, fruity brightness that feels quite different from my original Coco Mademoiselle.
Rose and jasmine soon appear, keeping things unmistakably Chanel, but for me there is also a lovely powderiness running through this fragrance.
As it settles, the familiar patchouli returns, joined by vetiver and warm ambery notes with plenty of vanilla. It’s elegant, but softer, fruitier and warmer than the original.
What I particularly like is that Chanel hasn’t simply made Coco Mademoiselle stronger. Crush Absolu has its own personality while still feeling very much part of the family.

I find the fruity and powdery character particularly lovely for autumn and spring, although this is elegant enough to wear whenever the mood takes you. Lasts 6+ hours, longer on clothing.
2. Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum
Review
Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum is the original and, for me, still the signature scent of the collection.
Fresh orange gives it that instantly recognisable bright opening before rose and jasmine add an elegant floral heart. The patchouli and vetiver underneath give the fragrance its depth and stop those fresh florals from ever becoming too sweet.
I’ve worn Coco Mademoiselle for years, and that’s really where it differs from Crush Absolu for me. I don’t have to think about when or where to wear it. Daytime, evening, work, lunch or dinner, it simply works.
It has freshness, florals and that earthy patchouli base all beautifully balanced. There is a reason this one has remained in my fragrance collection for so long.

Coco Mademoiselle vs Crush Absolu: What’s The Difference?
Although they share the unmistakable Coco Mademoiselle DNA, I find them surprisingly different on my skin.

And here’s something I discovered almost by accident: they layer beautifully.
After wearing Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum during the afternoon, I’ve sprayed Crush Absolu over it before going out in the evening. The brighter original is still lingering underneath while the fruity, powdery warmth of Crush Absolu comes through on top.

Conclusion
So, which one do I prefer? I’m not choosing a winner this time.
Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum remains my signature scent, while Crush Absolu has been a lovely addition to my collection. Its powdery fruitiness makes it different enough to justify owning both, while still feeling elegant and oh-so Chanel.
Perhaps Andrew knew what he was doing with my anniversary present!
