Instantly recognisable as a brand, if you hear the words “Hugo Boss” you probably think of contemporary male fashion, designer suits and fragrance. The best Hugo Boss men’s fragrances combine seductive notes of woods, fruits, florals and spices for a sophisticated modern-day male scent.

German fashion designer and businessman Hugo Boss founded his namesake clothing company in 1923, producing shirts, jackets, work clothing, sportswear and raincoats. The brand did not introduce their first fragrance, Boss Number One until 1985, and have since created over 100 incredible fragrances for both men and women.

1. BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette

BOSS Bottled Eau de Toilette

Review

BOSS Bottled is an abstract, contemporary fragrance that’s fresh, vibrant and sharp with a warm, woody base. It’s aimed at men who are competitive, driven and ambitious.

A fresh and fruity opening of sweet plum, crisp apple combined with citrus. A sexy trio of mahogany, carnation and cinnamon give a warm, spicy middle. A fantastic base of sultry vanilla and manly woody notes really shine through to crank up the compliment-level.

BOSS Bottled has a moderate sillage and decent longevity of 4+ hours so isn’t too overpowering as a fragrance. It’s definitely more of a daytime scent that works best in spring and summer thanks to its fruity top notes.
The bottle is classic and understated, with matte silver accents and embossed bottle. There’s a matching aftershave balm available if you want to layer up your fragrance.

2. BOSS Bottled Night Eau de Toilette

BOSS Bottled Night Eau de Toilette

Review

BOSS Bottled Night eau de toilette is an intense and aromatic fragrance with woody accords. Ryan Reynolds was the face of BOSS Bottled Night, which is aimed at the ambitious young man who realises his goals and strives for new challenges.

Opening with bright notes of lavender and invigoratingly sharp birch, it soon settles into a heart of powdery violet. Upon dry-down, deep base notes of woodsy notes and musk add a real sense of refinement. It’s definitely seductive, dark and masculine.

BOSS Bottled Night lasts 5+ hours and has a moderate sillage. More of an evening fragrance as the name suggests. Best suited to autumn/winter in my opinion, although surprisingly good for spring on account of floral and woodsy notes.

Presented in a bottle made of black, glossy glass with the embossed BOSS logo. This is one heck of a sexy masculine fragrance.

Top Notes:

Lavender, Birch

Mid Notes:

Violet

Base Notes:

Woodsy Notes, Musk

HUGO Now Eau de Toilette

Review

HUGO Now is an invigorating male fragrance that’s perfect for those with an adventurous spirit. It’s described as an Aromatic Aquatic and was created by Frank Voelkl for Hugo Boss.

With top notes of cardamom and lemon zest giving freshness and zinginess to the fragrance, and a heart of lavender, mint and watery notes – it’s definitely a refreshing male scent. Vetiver adds its earthy, grassy vibe once fully settled. At its best after about an hour, so be patient!

It’s long-lasting with a heavy sillage that really does linger, so it’s an excellent choice for all-day wear. HUGO Now is definitely a fresh, daytime fragrance that works best in the warmer spring and summer months.

The bottle is an excellent representation of the aquatic notes of the fragrance. It’s designed to look like a (classy, upmarket) water bottle which is a fun touch. The frosted glass and blue perfume further serve to represent water, without it ever looking cheap or gimmicky.

Cardamom, Lemon Zest

BOSS The Scent Private Accord For Him

Review

BOSS The Scent Private Accord for Him is a sensual and masculine fragrance that wants to reveal the mischievous and playful side of the wearer. It was created by perfumer Bruno Jovanovic as a woody-Oriental.

Opening top notes of ginger and bergamot create a thoroughly fresh/spicy start. A warm heart of coffee, sweet Maninka and pepper with a hint of pineapple add depth and intensity. A dark and mysterious base of intense chocolate, spiced vanilla and woods work fantastically with earth patchouli. This is one attention-grabbing male fragrance.

BOSS The Scent Private Accord is a long-lasting scent with moderate sillage, so it’s a great one for all-night wear. We’d definitely describe this as a fragrance that works best in the evening, and it’s more of a winter and autumn scent than one for spring and summer.

The bottle is warm and masculine with rose gold accents and amber-coloured fragrance. It has the signature BOSS embossing and looks incredibly luxurious.

HUGO Just Different Eau de Toilette

Review

HUGO Just Different is a new edition of one of the most popular men’s fragrances from 1995. It’s vibrant and modern with a fresh twist – Jared Leto was the face of this fragrance when it first launched.

The opening is incredibly clean and fresh with notes of crisp apple and fresh mint. A heart of sweet freesia blooms and mingles with basil and coriander that keeps everything manly. A seductive base of spicy/vanilla-esque cashmeran and earthy patchouli with hints of spicy olibanum smooth the edges. This fresh male scent of minted apple and spicy cashmeran lives up to its name for sure.

BOSS Bottled United Eau de Toilette

Review

BOSS Bottled United is described as the “olfactive encapsulation of an inner-city football pitch”. It’s a masculine scent that combines the freshness of the outdoors with urban warmth.

The opening is very manly with bitter Agathosma, tangy blood orange and ozonic top notes. Minty apple and sweet tones of melon are most prominent in the heart and add freshness. A base of grassy vetiver and the intoxicating earthy scent of patchouli really stand out during the dry-down of this fragrance. Uncomplicatedly masculine yet classy, recommended.

BOSS Bottled Tonic Eau de Toilette

Review

A fresh, masculine twist on the BOSS spirit, BOSS Bottled Tonic is a citrusy, woodsy fragrance that’s lighter than a lot of their men’s fragrances.

BOSS Bottled Tonic opens with fruity notes of grapefruit, bitter orange, lemon and apple. A darker heart of ginger, cinnamon, cloves and geranium bring tantalising spice to the forefront. Upon dry-down, vetiver and woodsy notes soften the sharper edges of the mid notes. Fantastic.

With a soft sillage and moderate longevity of 3+ hours, it’s definitely a lighter choice that’s much more suited to daytime. It works better in summer and spring—Perfect as an after-sports or office scent.

The bottle showcases the light and freshness, with a light blue bottle and matte silver stopper. It’s the signature BOSS shape with embossed logo.

A fruity opening of crisp apple and sweet orange mixed with cinnamon and sage work incredibly well. Soon, a seductive heart of aromatic lavender, dark patchouli and fragrant rosemary add a real masculine vibe. Sandalwood and olive tree become apparent on dry down, adding an unusual complexity to the base. A fragrance that will get you noticed.

10. BOSS Bottled Intense Eau de Parfum

BOSS Bottled Intense Eau de Parfum

Review

This luxurious, masculine fragrance is a refined interpretation of the original Boss Bottled. It’s complemented by enhanced woody and spicy accords and a higher concentration of precious scented oils.

BOSS Bottled Intense opens with notes of fresh apple and bergamot with a dusting of orange blossom. The way the sexy masculine florals of geranium and lavender combine with cinnamon, cloves and a touch of cardamom is fantastic. A woody base of sandalwood and cedar sprinkled with vetiver and sweet vanilla ooze class. Wow!

BOSS Bottled Intense is a long-lasting fragrance with a moderate sillage. It works well in either day or night, but probably best in autumn and winter because of its intensity.

The bottle is really masculine with a brushed chrome stopper and embossed BOSS lettering. The amber liquid contained within contrasts really well with the metallic metal.
