Yves Saint Laurent creates modern scents with mass appeal. Among their standout collections are the sophisticated Y and now the newly unveiled MYSLF.
The new MYSLF fragrance is a solid release from YSL; you can smell the quality of its notes straight off the bat. But let’s not forget the complexity of Y.
Unlike the Y collection, which leans towards a more traditional aromatic profile, MYSLF pushes the envelope with its ultra-fresh and confident persona.
OK, that’s enough chatter; I’m diving deep into a comparison of YSL’s latest release, MYSLF, with the classic Y Eau de Parfum. Shall we start…?
YSL MYSLF vs Y EDP
Shower-fresh confidence or aromatic masculinity, I put YSL MYSLF and Y EDP through their paces.
1. YSL MYSLF Eau de Parfum
Review
Launched in 2024, YSL MYSLF is a bold new addition to the YSL male line-up. It is a modern EDP that smells fresh, confident, and shower-fresh.
A barbershop-style opening of zesty, bright bergamot fused with the super-clean floral aroma of orange blossom imported from Tunisia.
The woody, earthy base of Indonesian patchouli and Ambrofix™ is relatively sedate, allowing the overall experience to remain clean and fresh.
Top Notes:
Calabrian Bergamot, Vert de Bergamot
Mid Notes:
Tunisian Orange Blossom
Base Notes:
Indonesian Patchouli, Ambrofix™
Seasons & Longevity
MYSLF’s fresh and vibrant scent profile makes it ideal for spring, summer, and early autumn. Whether you’re heading to a casual brunch or a formal business meeting, wear this.
On longevity, I found it performs pretty well, lingering on the skin for a good part of the day (5+ hours) without being overwhelming.
Benefits & Drawbacks
Pros | Fresh and confident masculine scent that smells designer |
Cons | Does smell similar to several other ‘freshie’ colognes |
2. YSL Y Eau de Parfum
Review
I find YSL Y Eau de Parfum more aromatic than MYSLF. Sure, it has the same bergamot and woody notes, but it’s spicy and herbal, too.
The scent journey begins with a refreshing blend of apple, bergamot, ginger, and (mostly) lavender and juniper in the heart, with a touch of geranium.
Finally, the base draws to a gently warming conclusion thanks to tonka bean, vetiver, and frankincense.
Top Notes:
Apple, Bergamot, Ginger, Elemi, Aldehydes
Mid Notes:
Geranium, Juniper, Sage, Lavender
Base Notes:
Tonka Bean, Vetiver, Frankincense, Operamide
Seasons & Longevity
Y Eau de Parfum is another no-brainer for spring, summer and fall. It’s versatile enough for casual day and classy evening attire.
This fragrance performs well for 7+ hours, ensuring you remain enveloped in its alluring aroma from dawn till dusk.
Benefits & Drawbacks
Pros | Aromatic male scent that evolves further over time |
Cons | Not everyone will love the sage and ginger |
Conclusion
Comparing YSL MYSLF and Y Eau de Parfum, they are both fresh but develop over time in different ways.
MYSLF remains fresh throughout its linear life-cycle, whereas Y evolves as the hours pass, becoming more aromatic, mainly due to that sage and ginger combo.

I feel that these two are different enough to add both to your collection. After all, sometimes you want ultra-fresh, and other times you need a bit of aromatic spice.
Finally, am I the only one who thinks Ambrofix™ sounds like it should come out of a mastic gun to put up shelving and skirting boards?
